COINTREAU
Cointreau is :
A premium liqueur made from the perfect distillation of bitter and sweet orange peels
- invented in 1849 by Edouard Cointreau; recipe has remained unchanged since
- 100% pure orange liqueur
- 40% alcohol content
- crystal clear spirit
- opalescent when poured over ice (essential oils reaction with ice)
Differences between Cointreau and a triple-sec
- Cointreau is a premium brand / a triple sec is generic
- Cointreau has essential oils (opalescence when poured over ice is a guarantee for that) / a triple sec is essentially artificial
- Cointreau is 40% alc. / a triple sec is usually below 20% alc.
- A triple sec is up to 5 times as sweet as Cointreau
Differences between Cointreau and Grand Marnier
- Cointreau is 100% pure orange liqueur / Grand Marnier is an orange-flavoured liqueur with a cognac base
- Cointreau uses bitter and sweet orange peels / Grand Marnier uses bitter orange peels only (=> less balanced flavour)
Cointreau is a key ingredients for great cocktails
- Part of the most famous cocktail such as Margarita, Cosmopolitan, Side Car,...
- Great Cosmopolitans (Cointreau, cranberry juice, vodka and lime)
- original Margaritas (Cointreau, tequila and lime juice)
