METAXA
Three Greek grape varieties are crushed to produce a special wine. From the fertile soil of Attica comes the deliciously distinctive Savatiano, which mingles with Sultanina from Crete and Black Corinth form the sundrenched south.
Under the strict supervision of the State General Laboratory, the wine is then distilled using a traditional two-stage process. The first distillation from the Copper Pot Still produces a liquid called 'Brouilly'. In the second distillation, the 'Brouilly' is separated into a head, heart and tail, from which only the colorless spirit of the heart is retained.
The master blender lets the distillates age by leaving them to mature in specially handmade French Limousin oak casks. The maturation process lasts between three and thirty years.
Blending the resulting spirits is a unique art, known only by a few people in the world. The master blenders keep the centuries-old tradition of silence, and pass their knowledge on through generations of apprentices who succeed them.
The distillates are mixed with aged Muscat wines from the Aegean islands of Samos and Limnos. These provide Metaxa's distinctive bouquet and sweetness. Then the mixture passes through a blend of secret Mediterranean botanicals and rose petals.
Finally, the mixture is allowed to rest in handmade oak casks in the cellars of the distillery, within the darkness and low temperatures which it requires. After stabilization, Metaxa is bottled and ready to return to the world of sunlight once again.
We could just tell you that it's a rich distillation of three special varieties of grapes. This distillation is then matured from 3 to 30 years in oak casks, then mixed with aged Muscat wines and a secret blend of botanicals in a time-honoured, internationally renowned recipe.
All absolutely true, but it hardly conveys the passion with which every drop of Metaxa is infused.
So close your eyes and imagine yourself transported to the land of Greece, where the perfect warmth of the sun creates both the unique taste of Metaxa and the joyful, genuine nature of those who enjoy it.
Then open your eyes to a land of bright, sparkling waters lit by endless days of golden Mediterranean sunshine and cooled by fresh, salty breezes. And open your heart to its people who live for the present in a land rich with myth and history.
Then order a Metaxa and savour the spirit of Greece, with over 2000 hours of sunshine distilled into every bottle.
Metaxa is the only spirit that liberates the part of yourself that lives, thinks and feels Mediterranean, in a Greek way.
The Range:
Metaxa 3* is the youngest member of the Metaxa family. Its simple yet stylish bottle reflects the beauty of the sun and the sweetness of the grapes from which it is born.
Its blended distillates are more than three years old - young enough to be full of life, yet sufficiently mature to convey the warm Mediterranean spirit characteristic of the Metaxa brand.
Metaxa 3* is often chosen to give the first experience of the world of Metaxa, competing favourably with premium local and imported brandies and imported white spirits.
