THE FAMOUS GROUSE

THE
FAMOUS
GROUSE

We continue to use more ex-sherry casks than anyone else in the business of Scotch whisky which cost 10 times more than bourbon casks and gives a smoother more rounded taste, which our founder family realised over 100 years ago:

“…and when the whisky has been sufficiently matured in sherry casks (which are of unpurchasable benefit to it), there can be no more wholesome spirit, and in purity, fragrance and ease of digestion it is superior to the finest French brandy”. William Gloag, 1860’s

While the recipe behind The Famous Grouse Finest remains a closely-guarded secret, two award-winning single malts, The Macallan and Highland Park, are included and our whisky makers continue to insist on a long marrying process - of up to six months - to safe-guard its unrivalled smooth taste. The brand also has superb mixibility and more and more consumers around the world are enjoying The Famous Grouse served long over ice with a mixer such as ginger beer - The Ginger Grouse.

The brand’s rich heritage - dating back to 1800 - is celebrated at the five-star home of the brand, The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret, Scotland’s oldest working distillery in Perthshire. The Famous Grouse Icon has also become ‘famous’ since first appearing in our advertising in the autumn of 1995. Since then over 25 films have been produced and aired in at least 10 to 15 countries. The Icon imagery is also used in other marketing material (including tent cards, drinks mats and optics, etc.) - in every country we ship to. Our UK TV advertising is so popular that every Christmas our UK TV ads receive fan mail. In fact in November we receive e-mails and letters asking when our ads will be aired!

Perhaps though it is the spirit of kinship and keen sense of national pride, nurtured by The Famous Grouse’s long support of the Scotland rugby team, which has drawn the brand into the hearts of the Scots. The longest running international team sponsorship in the world of rugby, The Famous Grouse supported the Scotland team for 17 years, since 1990. Today, The Famous Grouse is continuing its support as the Official Spirit of Scottish Rugby, ensuring the famous spirit continues to epitomise the very best of Scotland and Scottish hospitality.
